How to Relocate Car Speakers

Driving is both a personal and enjoyable experience for many people. And when your car audio system is set just the way you like it, that just kicks up the total driving experience a notch. Factory-installed audio systems are made to appeal to the widest range of drivers. To enhance your driving pleasure, you may just need to move the speakers to better receive the most from your system.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

1. Decide where you want to place each speaker by experimenting with small radios and boom boxes. Set them in the car in various locations and drive around for a while with them all on. Move them to different spots to find where you get the most enjoyment from your music.
2. Remove the speakers from their current locations by carefully prying back the covers. You may need to pop off a door cover or a piece of the dashboard when the speaker covers are built into the whole piece. Look for screws or hooks before forcing off a cover and be sure to loosen each screw.
3. Run wires from the current speaker wires to the locations in the car that you have chosen for your new audio sound system.
4. Attach each speaker to the new location and build a custom enclosure to protect the speaker or use a ready-made speaker box.
5. Hide the wires under the carpet or along the sides of the doors or frames. Replace the dashboard and door covers to their original position.
6. Adjust the fader and balance and crank it up.

Tips & Warnings

• Gently but firmly remove and replace parts within the car so that it will look as good as new, while sounding better than ever.
• Turn off the power when touching any electrical system.
• Be careful not to puncture or dent the sensitive speaker filaments when moving the speakers outside of a box or cover.
