Using tanning lotion indoors is a great way to avoid harmful UV rays while still looking like you just got home from the beach. Getting that gorgeous glow really isn't that difficult either. Just follow these easy steps and make your friends green with envy.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a tanning lotion that is right for your skin type.

  2. Step 2

Exfoliate before applying a tanning lotion to remove dead skin for a more even and longer-lasting effect. Use a circular motion to exfoliate the entire body, especially the knees, elbows and hands.

  3. Step 3

Apply a small amount of the tanning lotion with long, firm strokes. Then gently rub in the lotion with soft, circular motions. Start at your feet and work up your body without missing any spots.

  4. Step 4

Ask a friend to apply the lotion to your back to ensure an even tan.

  5. Step 5

Dab a small amount on the back of your neck, ears and hands. Blend it in evenly.

  6. Step 6

Remove makeup before applying a facial tanning lotion. Gently massage it into your face with circular motions. Use cotton swabs to remove excess lotion from your eyebrows and hairline.

  7. Step 7

Wait for the tanning lotion to fully absorb before getting dressed. Tanning lotions will stain clothing.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always work on small areas of your body to achieve a flawless tan.
  • If your skin is dry or sensitive, apply the lotion two times to create a flawless surface.
  • Keep your skin well-moisturized to achieve best results and longer-lasting tan.
  • Harsh soaps and shower gels may fade your tan faster.
  • Tanning lotions do not protect you from the sun, so don't forget to apply sunscreen before going out into the sun.
  • Don't apply tanner on your lips, nipples, around the bikini line, over moles or freckles.
