Adding a supercharger to your vehicle is a great way to get extra horsepower, but it's a complicated install. If you don't have the experience, finding a supercharger mechanic is your best option. He'll do the job right and you'll be much happier with the results.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find a shop specializing in high performance. Any mechanic could do the job but a high performance shop can install your supercharger more quickly. Plus, since they deal with these installs daily, they'll be more knowledgeable and better able to troubleshoot any problems.

  2. Step 2

Ask about the mechanic's certification before you entrust your car to him. Look for the blue seal of the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). This non-profit organization requires mechanics to take a test and provide two years of relevant experience to be certified.

  3. Step 3

Realize that installing a supercharger is a 4 to 5 hour job and you could be paying $90 an hour or more. But some estimates are as high as $700 so take the cost into account before you choose a mechanic.

  4. Step 4

Compare the prices at the mechanic you've chosen with the prices of other shops in town. Check online too, since it's possible to get a good deal there.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't pay for anything before you've thoroughly inspected your vehicle. This means checking under the hood as well as taking it for a drive to inspect the performance. If there is something wrong, you're more likely to get it fixed before you've paid, rather than trying to get your money back later.
