Step 1
Consider how you'll use the vintage sunglasses you choose. For sportswear or boating, you'll want to choose vintage sunglasses that are strong and durable. If you're wearing them strictly for fashion, you can select based on how they look alone.
-
Step 2
Choose sunglasses that fit properly and are comfortable. They shouldn't be too tight, particularly across the bridge of your nose, nor should they slide around easily. The fit should be snug but comfortable, with nothing blocking your vision.
-
Step 3
Examine the frame styles. Vintage sunglasses are typically large and plastic, either with or without design.
-
Step 4
Decide on the style of lens you want in your vintage sunglasses. Mirror lenses are always popular, while lighter colors are not going to provide the same amount of sun protection.
-
Step 5
Select several pair of vintage sunglasses that meet the above criteria, in several sizes. You'll find yourself gravitating toward similar looks, which will help you narrow down your choices.
-
Step 6
Try on your selections. This process can be daunting and it's often helpful to have the advice of a friend or loved one to help you choose.
-
Step 7
Narrow down your selection based on fit and personal preference. If prices are reasonable and it's difficult to make a final selection, you can always choose to purchase more than one pair of vintage sunglasses.

on 11/2/2009 This is useful information, but the tricky part is finding real vintage sunglasses in good condition and not getting cheated by fakes and reproductions. Vintage sunglasses are so much cooler and higher quality than new styles, but it's tough to find them. I'm a sunglass collector and have seen hundreds of Revos, RayBans, et al, but even I've gotten fooled buying sunglasses on sites like ebay. The one web site I've found that sells authentic vintage designer sunglasses is the Vintage Sunglasses Shop at vintagesunglassesshop.com . Lots of pictures, rare styles, fair prices.
