Step 1
Decide what your main use is going to be when you choose SUV tires. The use of the vehicle will determine what type of tire is best.
-
Step 2
Select a SUV tire for use on construction sites, for example. This tire must be a rugged and dependable tire that will withstand different pressures and weight on the tire. Choose at least a 6-ply tire for this purpose. Six-ply tires are harder to puncture than 4-plys, so it is better suited for construction work.

Step 3
Look for a different type of tire for your SUV if you use your vehicle off-road. This type of tire must have deeper tread than the standard tires. This gives you better traction when you drive off-road. Some people call this type of tire a "mud and snow tire." Most of these tires are directional and will not clog up when you drive in mud or snow.

Step 4
Choose the proper size when you look for tires for your SUV. When choosing the size of tire you want on your SUV, decide whether you want a standard tire or an over-sized tire. Over-sized tires give you more ground clearance to travel over rough terrain. Remember, when buying over-sized tires it is important to check the clearance on your vehicle, especially on the turning radius.
