When you have dry skin, you need to take extra care in choosing products designed to add color to your skin, or else you can end up with streaky, unnatural results. Though bronzers are easier to achieve good results with than traditional sunless tanners, you get the best results if you choose one formulated for your skin.

From Quick Guide: Tanning 101
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Understand the basic categories of bronzers. There are some bronzers that you apply just like makeup, while others provide a light sunless tan that fades as a regular tan would. A deep tanner bronzer makes it look like you've spent hours in the sun but may fade a little more quickly than a tan.

  2. Step 2

Decide whether you want to apply bronzer to your face, neck and bustline for a special evening or if you want to achieve an all-over bronzed look. If you're a woman looking for a facial bronzer, first see if your favorite makeup line carries a bronzer designed for dry skin.

  3. Step 3

Select a cream, mousse or spray bronzer, rather than a gel or a compressed powder, for a smooth and even result.

  4. Step 4

Look for bronzers blended with moisturizers and vitamins like E and C. Dry skin regains a healthy appearance when you apply moisturizing bronzers containing botanical extracts.

  5. Step 5

Seek out bronzers that describe themselves as illuminating, reflective or translucent. These bronzers contain ingredients like minerals that reflect light and create a healthy-looking glow. Though these ingredients don't moisturize your skin, you can more easily disguise dry skin with them.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid any bronzers that use the word "matte" in the product name or description if you have dry skin. They can make your dry skin look even drier.
