Using a spray bronzer is one of the easiest ways to get the look of a natural tan without spending time in the sun and without expensive salon methods. You can choose a spray bronzer that gives temporary results like makeup, or you can choose one that's closer to a self-tanner. Use the same method to apply either type.

From Quick Guide: Tanning 101
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Shower and exfoliate your skin using a mild scrub. Pat yourself dry after your shower rather than toweling off vigorously.

  2. Step 2

Apply one even coat of spray bronzer to your body once you're entirely dry. Be sure to cover all exposed areas of your body for a natural look. If you're planning on wearing a swimsuit, apply the bronzer to your entire body.

  3. Step 3

Spread the bronzer with your hands after you spray it to ensure even coverage. Depending on the type of bronzer you use, you may see instant results or it may take a few hours for the color to develop.

  4. Step 4

Wash your hands thoroughly after you apply the spray bronzer.

  5. Step 5

Allow the spray bronzer to dry before you get dressed.

  6. Step 6

Use a bronzer that provides a sunless tan each day until you achieve the color you want. After that, use it once a week to maintain your tan. Reapply a bronzer that washes off whenever you want a tanned appearance.

Tips & Warnings
  • Though products sold as bronzers used to exclusively be lotions or powders that temporarily tinted your skin in the same way as makeup, today you can find bronzers that create a longer-lasting sunless tan as well as bronzers you wash off.
  • Enlist a friend to help you apply spray bronzer to hard-to-reach areas like your back.
