Bronzer adds a sun-kissed glow to your face and enhances your complexion. However, a sun-kissed glow doesn't mean you paint yourself orange or that your face is a different color than your neck. Choosing the right shade of bronzer is important so that your complexion doesn't look fake.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Look over your current makeup and see which colors dominate in your lipsticks, blushes and eye shadows. If you have a lot of corals or peaches, you need a peachy bronzer. If you wear mostly neutrals, choose an earth-colored bronzer.

  2. Step 2

Shop for bronzer using the back of your hand as a skin color guide. If the store allows samples, rub some bronzer on the back of your hand and see how well it matches or enhances your skin.

  3. Step 3

Pick a bronzer that offers multiple shades for more color choices. Bronzers come in quads, as mosaics or in a compact of thin strips of 5 or 6 colors.

  4. Step 4

Bring your most worn makeup with you when you shop for bronzer. Your bronzer shade should complement your makeup shades. Hold your favorite lipstick, blush and eye shadow up to the bronzer and see if they clash or blend together.

  5. Step 5

Change your bronzer shade depending on the season. You can use a darker bronzer in summer when your skin is naturally tan. Choose a lighter bronzer in the winter so you won't look orange.

Tips & Warnings
  • A general rule for choosing the right bronzer shade is that fair skin looks good with rose or peach bronzer, medium skin looks good with a copper or earth toned colors, and dark skin looks good with a chocolate colored bronzer.
