Step 1
Schedule routine maintenance for your cooling system. For cars less than 5 years old, this can be done every other year. For cars more than 5 years old, it should be scheduled annually.
-
Step 2
Drain and flush the radiator during the above mentioned routine maintenance. Check the thermostat, hoses and belts, replacing them as needed. Also inspect the brass connectors to make sure the fit is snug and tight, being careful not to harm the soft brass material.
-
Step 3
Fill the radiator with the proper coolant depending upon the climate of your location. Follow your dealer's suggestions or consult a specialist.
-
Step 4
Pressure check your radiator. Pump the pressure up to operating conditions when the car has not been running. Leaks or clogs will be visible, but you won't be injured by overheated fluids. Repair any leaks you happen to locate and recheck the pressure.
