Instructions

  1. Over-the-Counter Remedies

    • 1

Purchase over-the-counter anti fungal medication containing terbinafine, miconazole or clotrimazole at your local drug store. Look for medications specifically made to treat jock itch or athlete's foot.

    • 2

Read all medication instructions. Note how long the jock itch medication must be used to be effective.

    • 3

Wash the affected area with soap and water. Dry the area with a clean towel by gently patting the area. Use a blow dryer set on cool to completely dry the affected area.

    • 4

Apply the anti fungal medication as described in the instructions. Continue to apply the medication according to instructions on the package even if the symptoms disappear.

    • 5

Bathe daily and change your clothing after strenuous activity. Wash towels and clothing in hot water. Jock itch is contagious. Keep the affected area as clean and dry as possible.

    • 6

Contact your doctor if the jock itch symptoms worsen or do not clear up after using the over-the-counter medications.

    Herbal Remedies

    • 7

Purchase apple cider vinegar or tea tree oil, both natural anti fungal agents, at a local grocery or natural foods store.

    • 8

Clean the affected area with soap and water and dry the area completely.

    • 9

Use a clean cotton ball to apply apple cider vinegar or tea tree oil to the affected area twice daily. Continue to apply tea tree oil or apple cider vinegar for at least five days after symptoms disappear to completely kill the jock itch.

    • 10

Adjust your diet. Eliminate processed sugar from your diet. Eat grains in moderation. Eat garlic and increase consumption of foods that boost your immune system.

    • 11

Wear cotton clothing or materials that keep your skin dry. Change your clothing frequently and wash all used towels and clothing in hot water before reusing.

    • 12

Contact your doctor if your jock itch symptoms worsen or reappear after a brief period of time.
