How to Get a Car in a Barrett-Jackson Auction

If you're a fan of classic or collector cars, the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction, held every year in Scottsdale, Arizona, is the place for you. If you're ready to take that step from mere spectator to bidder, here's how you can get a car at the Barrett-Jackson auction.

Instructions

    • 1

Register as a bidder at the Barrett-Jackson Auction. Though registration is available at the event, it is recommended to pre-register by mail. You can call and request an application packet or download the bidder application form from the Barrett-Jackson website.

    • 2

Remit the completed application form, registration fee and all required additional documentation including a photograph of yourself. This will allow your Bidder Credentials to be ready at the on-site office when you arrive at the auction.

    • 3

Inspect the car which you will be bidding on. Determine the authenticity and condition of the car through visual inspection, vehicle identification number and verifying any authentic parts.

    • 4

Bid on the car of your choice when it is presented during auction. It is best to determine the price of your bid beforehand, after having inspected the car and performed any other necessary research into the pricing of the particular make and model you are bidding on.

    • 5

Win the car by being the highest bidder. Sign a form confirming your bid and go to the auction office to complete all necessary paperwork. Then arrange payment at the Cashiering Department and assume possession of the car.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do your homework on the particular car you wish to bid on before going to the Barrett-Jackson Auction by researching the car on the auction's website as well as reading magazines and speaking with collector car dealers.

  • If you need to transport the car after the auction, it is advised to make transportation arrangements and even complete insurance requirements prior to completing the purchase.

  • A commission of 10 percent is added to the purchase price of the car.
