Herbal face wash is a naturally wonderful way to remove dirt and makeup, and to freshen the face. Just dab a little on with a cotton ball or soft washcloth and smooth it gently over the face. Follow up with a light toner to remove excess oil and your face will feel renewed and revitalized.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • 7 cups distilled water
  • Handful of dried whole rosemary
  • Handful of dried calendula heads
  • 3 tbs. dried marshmallow root
  • 3 tbs. dried peppermint leaves
  • 3 tbs. dried rose petals
  • ¼ tsp. powdered borax
  • 3 tsp. citric acid
  • 2/3 cups extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2/3 cups emulsifying wax
  • 4 tbs. beeswax
  • 2 tsp. essential oils of your choice

Step1
Bring the distilled water to a boil in a large saucepan. Stir in the powdered borax.
Step2
Melt the beeswax, emulsifying wax and olive oil in a saucepan on low heat, heating only until the beeswax is just barely melted.
Step3
Place the dried herbs in a large bowl and pour the hot water over the top. Allow it to infuse for about 30 minutes.
Step4
Let both mixtures cool until they are warm to the touch.
Step5
Slowly blend the oils into the water mixture with a stick blender or mixer. Mix in the essential oils, and continue mixing until the mixture begins to cool.
Step6
Store the herbal face wash in the refrigerator. Shake it before each use.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your skin is oily, add a small amount of dried comfrey, yarrow or nettle.
  • A blend of lavender, pink grapefruit and lemon essential oil will make the herbal face wash both aromatic and healthy for the skin.
