How to Kill a Lobster

Many people believe that the best way to kill a lobster is to throw it in a pot of boiling water and hope it dies quickly. This camp believes the boiling method reduced toughness of the meat. However, there is another camp that believes there is a less painful way for the bottom dweller to be put to rest, as explained in the following steps. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Freeze the lobster for 15 minutes. This slows down the lobster and reduces movement when his fateful hour arrives.

    • 2

Sharpen a 10-inch chef's knife. Sharpen the entire knife including the point. The knife will need to be sharpened enough to puncture the lobster shell.

    • 3

Position the lobster on a firm surface. Use a wooden cutting board with a skid-free base. If the cutting board moves, place a dampened kitchen towel beneath it.

    • 4

Flatten and hold down the lobster with one hand where the tail and head segments meet. This will be two-thirds down the lobster's body.

    • 5

Aim the knife above the head where the horizontal and vertical creases meet. This is about 1 to 1 1/2 inches below the eyes. Swiftly puncture the lobster. Then with another motion, finish cutting through the lobster toward the eyes and away from the tail. Breath deep. You have completed your task.
