Barbecue utensils tool kits come in a variety of sizes and prices. Most tool kits offer stainless steel utensils with either wood, rubber or steel handles. Simple barbecue tool kits have 3 or 4 utensils, while more elaborate tool kits boast a 6-place setting of forks and knives. When buying a barbecue cooking tools kit, it's important that you consider how much you'll grill and for how many people.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Shop for barbecue tool kits with a focus on the three main utensils. The spatula, grill brush and tongs are the more important grill tools because they're used the most.

  2. Step 2

Watch the length of the cooking utensils handles. Grill tools should be a minimum of 12-inches long, with 18 inches being the preferred length. The shorter the handles, the closer your hand and arm are to the flame.

  3. Step 3

Decide how many pieces you want in the barbecue tool kit by writing down the utensils you know you'll use a lot. Typically, a good barbecue tool kit has a spatula, grill brush, tongs, basting brush, knife and two-pronged fork.

  4. Step 4

Check for dishwasher safety before you buy. Barbecue utensils with wood handles aren't usually dishwasher safe, and manufacturers don't recommend putting stainless steel in the dishwasher.

  5. Step 5

Choose a utensils tool kit with flat, square skewers over thin, rounded skewers. Food on round skewers slips easily off the skewer and onto the grill. Flat skewers grip the food better and prevent spillage.

  6. Step 6

Pick a larger barbecue tool kit if you want extra utensils. Larger utensil kits have corn cob holders, a corkscrew, bottle opener, temperature gauge and eating utensils.

  7. Step 7

Make sure the case holding the barbecue utensils is sturdy and easily cleaned. Plastic cases are cheaper but break easily. Stainless steel cases last a long time but are heavier and more expensive.
