More and more cruise lines are offering the option of freestyle cruising to their guests. Freestyle cruising gives the guests more freedom and eliminates some of the more traditional elements of taking a cruise, like formal dress and set dining times.

From Quick Guide: Cruisin' Together
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Research the different lines that offer freestyle cruises. The most well-known cruise lines that have this option are NCL and Princess.

  2. Step 2

Book the cruise through your travel agent. Let them know that you wish to take a freestyle cruise and see what sailings they have available.

  3. Step 3

Bring a mix of clothes. Traditional cruises require that you bring formalwear to sport on certain evenings. Freestyle cruises do not have a formal dress code in place.

  4. Step 4

Locate the different restaurants on the ship. You are going to want to find out what your options are as far as dining on a freestyle cruise. Although you can eat at anytime that you want, you may need reservations at some of the more popular restaurants.

  5. Step 5

Expect a mix of entertainment. Freestyle cruises are going to have more entertainment offerings to appeal to a wider audience. You are likely to receive a daily schedule of events each day in your cabin.

Tips & Warnings
  • Freestyle cruising was developed due to passengers' wariness over having to eat at the same set time with the same people over the entire course of their cruise.
  • Freestyle cruise ships are likely to have a large number of restaurants on board. For example, certain NCL ships have more than 10 restaurants open to guests.
