How to Build a Waterskiing Pyramid

When building a waterskiing pyramid, the members on the bottom are called "bases" and the members on the top are called "climbers." The best way to build the pyramid is to start with a basic 2 by 1 pyramid, which is made with two skiers on the bottom and one on the top. From there you can add on to the pyramid by following the same premise used in creating the basic 2 by 1.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide who will be the "bases" on your pyramid. These members of the pyramid should wear wide skis, as they will each require an adequate surface area to support their own weight and that of half of another person.

  2. Step 2

Prepare the ropes for each member of the pyramid. The climber's rope must be a bit longer than the two bases' ropes and they must have a dowel on the rope.

  3. Step 3

Start out everyone skiing together. The climber must be positioned in between the two bases as they ski.

  4. Step 4

Bend your knees if you are one of the bases in the pyramid. The thigh should be almost a flat surface as you squat while skiing.

  5. Step 5

Drop the left ski first if you are the climber and put that foot on the thigh of the base on your left side. Once you have this position, drop the right ski and do the same with the base to your right as you hold on to the shoulders or heads of both bases to stay balanced.

  6. Step 6

Climb up from the bases' thighs to their shoulders if you are the climber one foot at a time. Hold on to the dowel on the rope as you climb up. Now you have made your first waterskiing pyramid.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are a base, make sure you do not ski away from the other base. The two must stay as close together as possible while waterskiing.
  • Practice makes perfect. You may not get it right the first few times, but the more you practice, the better you will get.
  • Make sure that the "climber" in the pyramid has skis that are easily removed so that they can drop them once they reach the top of the pyramid.
