The Flatliner is a difficult Freestyle Motocross (FMX) trick because of the multiple movements involved. It consists of leaning the bike sideways while performing a tsunami perpendicular to the bike. It's a crowd favorite at FMX events. The following steps will show how to do the FMX Flatliner Trick.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Practice the Flatliner in the following stages: Whip, Superman, Tsunami and Flatliner.

  2. Step 2

Perform a Whip by leaning sideways on the bike to bring it horizontal and then bringing it back to vertical.

  3. Step 3

Do a Superman by taking your feet off the bike and holding your body horizontal to the ground with only your hands holding onto the bike by the handle bars. Pull yourself back in to the standard riding position for the landing.

  4. Step 4

Use a wave-like motion to bring your body into the Superman position. This motion distinguishes the Tsunami from the Superman and gives the Tsunami trick its name.

  5. Step 5

Combine the Whip with the Tsunami. Bring the bike to as close to horizontal as possible before bringing your feet off the bike to perform the Tsunami. Reverse these actions to bring the bike vertical again and spot the landing.

Tips & Warnings
  • FMX tricks are dangerous and may result in severe injury or death. No FMX trick should be attempted without proper supervision and protective gear at all times. The Flatliner is particularly dangerous because of the difficulty in getting the bike vertical in time for the landing.
