1
Measure your body to get correct hip, thigh and waist sizes. Use a flexible measuring tape to get the most accurate sizes. Enlist the help of a friend so the tape size can be easily read.
-
2
Decide if you need a thigh, hip or a buttock girdle. Since they all firmly control different areas of the body, determine based on your medical or personal preference which is right for your needs.

3
Determine the size girdle needed for your personal reasons. It is advisable to buy girdles at least one size larger than your normal size to allow room for comfort.
-
4
Visit an undergarment store that specializes in properly fitting people for bras and girdles. The selections are larger and the associates are more knowledgeable to assist you in finding a girdle that suits your need. People that buy girdles from specialty shops tend to have a higher satisfaction rate than those who don't.
-
5
Purchase at least 2 or 3 girdles when you make your selections. This allows you to always have one girdle available while you launder the others.
-
6
Hand wash the girdles in cold water and gently wring them out in a large towel. Allow the girdle to air dry. This prolongs the life of the girdle and keeps the fibers from stretching or melting as they would from dryer heat.

Don't click on the link under Resources entitled "information on purchasing girdles in a retail store" unless you want to see men in girdles. Just saying, it won't help a female. I did not click on the first link, however. -
