Body piercing has become very popular in recent years. What was once considered exotic or taboo is now pretty commonplace. Most people think nothing of seeing someone sporting a piercing in the nose, lips, eyebrow, cheek or belly button. This open acceptance of piercing could mean a generous potential income for those qualified to fill the growing demand. Here's how to become a body piercer.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Become an apprentice to an established, well-respected piercer. An apprenticeship is a specific time frame where you receive hands-on training and experience from the basics of piercing progressing to a skilled professional. This is the best way to become a body piercer and learn more about the art of piercing.
Step2
Spend a minimum of at least three months as a full time trainee where you learn all about sterilization, cross-contamination, disinfecting and many other health and safety concerns before you begin piercing.
Step3
Wear disposable gloves and use piercing instruments and jewelry from unopened, sterile packages. Body piercers should have spore test results of all sterilizing equipment to promote health and safety.
Step4
Learn about the business aspects of being a body piercer. Learn about customer service, jewelry quality and selection, piercing care instructions and troubleshooting any problems that can occur with piercing.
Step5
Attend well-known training seminars for body piercers. Choose seminars that discuss anatomy, safety, hygiene and techniques, and provide hands-on piercing experience to help you become a body piercer.
Step6
Enroll in a blood-born pathogens training class. These classes are usually offered by OSHA or Red Cross.
