Step 1
Explore which types of cosmetic tattooing you want to learn. The basics consist of eyebrow, lip and eyeliner tattooing. More advanced permanent tattooing can include procedures to freshen one's appearance, corrective tattooing to camouflage or enhance imperfections, and restorative work to help heal scars.
-
Step 2
Compare training options in your area to find one you can afford and offers practice opportunities. There is a wide range from a 2-day course that covers the basics to longer programs provided by cosmetic schools, or even hiring your own private instructor. Previous experience isn't required; however, experience in the cosmetic, tattoo or medical industry is helpful.
-
Step 3
Research the credentials of instructors and choose someone who is qualified and licensed.
-
Step 4
Become an apprentice to someone who is experienced in cosmetic tattooing. Or at least establish contacts in the field that can help develop your skills and be a helpful resource.
