How to Make a Splash Page

A splash page provides an entry point to a website. Sometimes flash animation provides attention-grabbing detail, but you don't have to use anything that elaborate on your splash page if you're not that technically savvy. Basic splash pages are simple to create and you can make them with software that is available for free.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a sketch of what you want on your splash page. Consider your target audience. Add words and graphics to appeal to them. The easiest way to do this first step is with pencil and paper.

    • 2

Open the graphics program you plan to use. You may already have such a program on your computer or you can download one for free. Create the graphics you want to use in your splash page. Save them.

    • 3

Start a program that allows you to create web pages. Most word processors allow you to save to html or there are free "WYSIWYG" (what you see is what you get) web page creation sites available for download.

    • 4

Select a background color. Insert the graphics you plan to use. You may want to try different arrangements to find the one best suited for your needs.

    • 5

Add text to your splash page. You want text that is easy to read and uncluttered.

    • 6

Make a link on the splash page that takes you to your main website. If you fail to do this step, you can lose the customers you attracted with your splash page. If you make any of the graphics clickable, be sure they go to the proper website as well.

Save your work frequently as you advance through the steps of creating a splash page. As you work, you may find yourself creating several different versions of the same splash page. Make sure each splash page loads quickly.
