Biking across Martha's Vineyard is challenging. Martha's Vineyard has more than 60 miles of roads and trails for cycling. Bike rentals are available, but many serious biking enthusiasts bring their own bikes. The fresh sea air and great scenery of Martha's Vineyard give cyclists a great ride.   1. Step 1

    Look over bike trail maps of Martha's Vineyard. There are many cycling routes mapped out. The routes vary in length and level of difficulty, from a short leisurely hour to a day long ride of 20 miles or more. Martha's Vineyard is more than 100 square miles in area.

  2. Step 2

    Take a ferry from Cape Cod. Park the car, buy a round-trip ticket, and take the ferry across to Martha's Vineyard. The trip to the Martha's Vineyard takes just a few minutes.

  3. Step 3

    Rent a bike. All varieties of bicycles can be rented, including children's bikes and mountain bikes. Accessories such as helmets, baskets and trailers are also available to rent. Rental bikes may not be available during the peak season, such as summer weekends, so it is best to call ahead and reserve a bike.

  4. Step 4

    Start at Vineyard Haven for an easy ride. Follow the bike path from Vineyard Haven and head over to Oak Bluffs. Enjoy the beach and lighthouse near there before riding down to Edgartown. Enjoy the bird sanctuary and natural terrain on the return trip.

  5. Step 5

    Combine a Martha's Vineyard biking trip with a bed and breakfast. Martha's Vineyard has many great paved bike routes and dozens of scenic spots to enjoy; cyclists should take the time to enjoy all the area has to offer.
