Dogs eat anything. If an object is on the ground chances are your dog will try to eat it and there are occasions when your dog will actually swallow it. These objects can't pass in your dog's stool so you'll need to make your dog vomit the object or pay a hefty vet bill. Try one or more of the following steps to make your dog vomit the swallowed object.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Dilute hydrogen peroxide in a ratio of one part hydrogen peroxide to two parts water. Make your dog drink 1 tsp. every 15 minutes until he is able to vomit the swallowed object.

  2. Step 2

Mix equal parts of salt and warm water in a small glass. Make your dog swallow 2 tsp. every 15 minutes until she is able to vomit the swallowed object.

  3. Step 3

Place a 1/2 tsp. of salt at the back of the dog's throat. Encourage him to drink water from his bowl. Wait a couple of minutes and the dog should vomit the swallowed object.

  4. Step 4

Administer 1 tsp. of syrup of Ipecac. Watch to see if your dog is able to vomit the swallowed object.

  5. Step 5

Contact the Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435 if your dog swallowed a caustic object such as a battery. These can cause internal tears in the stomach of your dog if he vomits it back up.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't make a dog vomit if the swallowed item is a sharp or pointed object such as hooks, nails or glass. The same is true if the dog has swallowed corrosive substances.
