How to Explore Austin's Inner Space Cavern

      Pick the time of day you will be touring the cavern. Summer hours are 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. from May 21 until September 10. Off-season weekend hours are 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Off-season weekday hours are 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

      Dress in appropriate clothing. Temperature in the cave is 72 degrees F year-round.

      Choose which tour you will be going on. Inner Space Cavern has three tours available, ranging in level of difficulty and availability. The Adventure Tour and the Explorer's Tour are both for all ages. The Explorer's Tour is 20 minutes longer than the 75-minute Adventure Tour, uses flashlights and has limited availability.

      Take the two-hour Wild Cavern Tour when you want a bigger adventure. This tour is available for adults with an advance reservation. Complete with climbing up inclines and squeezing through tight spaces, the Wild Cavern Tour resembles underground hiking and is suitable for the physically fit.

      Pan for gems and minerals at the Inner Space Mine. Select and purchase a bag of dirt containing gems and minerals. Bring your bag outside to mine and keep what you find. There is no age requirement for this activity.

      Visit the Inner Space Cavern Gift Shop for a souvenir or toy for the kids.

Tips & Warnings

  • The Explorer's Tour starts approximately every 15 to 20 minutes. Tickets are sold on a first-come-first-served basis.

  • A playscape and picnic grounds are also available.

  • Camera tripods, strollers, wheelchairs and canes are prohibited.
