Step 1
Determine the scoring system the league uses for its fantasy basketball league. For instance, some leagues have scoring categories for shooting and free throw percentage. The types of scoring categories can weigh heavily on which center to draft.
-
Step 2
Verify which division each center plays in. This is important because a team plays against teams in their division more frequently than any other team. Therefore, if these teams have a strong interior defense then a particular center may struggle against those teams.
-
Step 3
Analyze any off-season moves made by the center's team. For instance, if a team just drafted or signed a new point guard this will significantly impact the center's productivity as the center is dependent on others to get them scoring opportunities.
-
Step 4
Pay attention to the player's history. Check to see if the player pads his stats against mediocre teams and then does not play well in the other games. In addition, the player may have a history of injuries or discipline issues.
-
Step 5
Learn the player's contract status. Players will often play very well in the last year of their contracts because they are working hard for that next contract. On the other hand, if the player just signed a large contract it can lead to a possible decline in performance given the lack of monetary incentive.

Step 6
Investigate any changes in the league rules during the off-season. Often these rule changes can benefit a particular position or style of play.
