For example, during the loss of a loved one, you can write down how thankful you are for the support and love of friends and family.

Do something positive for someone else. Helping others is the surest way to uplift your own spirits. Volunteer at a food pantry or read to kids in the pediatric ward of a local hospital. Helping those in need will fill you with joy.

Surround yourself with positive people and positive music. Uplifting and upbeat songs will uplift your spirit and elevate your mood. The same is true with people. Surrounding yourself with people who are content will elevate your unhappiness.

Participate in random acts of kindness. Spreading joy to others with no inkling that it's coming will make you smile as much as it makes the recipient smile.

Take a walk every day. Even if it's only to the mailbox and back, fresh air and sunshine have an immediate effect on your mood. While outside, notice how pretty the clouds are and how the plants are growing.
