Choose the perfect paint color for whatever room you're decorating by following a few simple steps. By knowing what colors you gravitate toward, what you like and dislike and what makes you happy, you'll be able to paint your home with confidence.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Review your purchases. If you've already purchased furniture or draperies, take a sample with you to choose a color that compliments those pieces.
Step2
Look through magazines and cut out the pages of rooms you like. Keeping these pages together will help you learn the style and colors you like the best.
Step3
Create a sophisticated room by using similar colors throughout, such as beiges and whites. Tone on tone colors allow you to choose various shades of the same color throughout your house, making a tasteful and sophisticated statement.
Step4
Make a dramatic statement by using paint colors that are on the opposite side of the color wheel from each other, or from the colors in your furniture. Choosing colors on the opposite side of the color wheel insures harmony in your selection, such as black and white. They will always go together and make a strong contrast.
Step5
Paint the entire room and live with it for several days prior to making a final decision on whether you like or dislike the color. Paint colors change according to the lighting in the room, so you'll need to view it in various lights to see how it works for you.
