How to Treat Scurvy With Natural Medicine

Vitamin C is unstable, is easily destroyed by overcooking and can only be stored in the body for short periods of time.   • Lemon and/or lime juice
  • Potatoes and other Vitamin C rich foods
  • Indian Gooseberry (Amla)
  • Sugar
  • Milk
  • Mango powder (Aamchur)
  1. Step 1

    Use lemon and/or lime juice to both treat and prevent scurvy. Naturally rich in vitamin C, lemons and limes may be the best natural medicine for treating scurvy. Simply squeeze about 1 tbsp. of juice into a glass, sweeten with a spoonful of honey and drink three times a day. Lemon or lime juice and water can be taken once a day to prevent scurvy in those prone to vitamin C deficiency.

    Include potatoes in your daily diet to treat scurvy. Even cooked, 100 mg of potatoes can contain up to 17 mg of vitamin C, making them a powerful natural medicine in the treatment and prevention of scurvy. To get the most vitamin C, steam your potatoes instead of boiling, frying or baking.

    Combine 1 tsp. of powdered Indian Gooseberry, also known as Amla, and 1 tsp. of sugar in a half a glass of milk. Drink this natural medicine three times a day to combat scurvy.

    Add mango powder to your meals, a natural Indian medicine known as Aamchur. 15 g of this powder, made from dried and powdered green mangoes, contains as much vitamin C as 30 grams of lime, making it an effective natural medicine in the treatment and prevention of scurvy.

    Eat a healthy diet rich in raw fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables especially helpful in the treatment and prevention of scurvy include tomatoes, oranges, grapefruits, lemons, limes, green peppers, broccoli, potatoes, sweet potatoes and both green and red cabbage.
