Step 1
Choose a theme. Pick a certain type of bead, a color theme and a metal type to build your jewelry project. Unless you're working on multiple projects, don't even look at beads that don't apply to your theme.
-
Step 2
Pick a few special beads as the focus. Choose the rest of the beads to match your special beads in color, shape, type or texture.
-
Step 3
Consider your needs when picking beads. If you have poor eyesight, poor dexterity or arthritis you will want to choose larger beads with big holes in them for ease. Beads with texture may also be easier than smooth beads.
-
Step 4
Watch for the long-term requirements of your beads. Some beads such as painted beads can flake or fade in time, while others can tarnish. Often the more expensive a bead is, the longer it will last.
-
Step 5
Incorporate crystals or minerals beads into your jewelry if you want. Some people feel certain crystals and minerals have powers that can help you in life. For example, jade can help with wisdom, while amethysts can help with mental peace.
-
Step 6
Be cautious of cost. Single beads can cost a great deal, depending on the materials incorporated, or how they're made. Other beads cost less than a penny. If you're selling your creations, make sure you won't be spending more on the beads than the finished project will sell for.
