Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Round jewelry wire
  • Pre-stranded gemstones
  • Round nose pliers
  • Small standard pliers
  • Flat nose pliers
  1. Step 1

Choose a style of wire wrap jewelry and gather complementary supplies at a local jewelry beads and gemstones store. Select round jewelry wire in different metals and gauges. Purchase the wire in inches or feet.

  2. Step 2

Thread the gemstones, one or two at a time, towards the end of the wire where the bottom is slightly curved. Secure the gemstone.

  3. Step 3

Cross the two ends of the wire tightly against the stone. Hold the wire in place with round nose pliers and twist the short end of the wire tightly around the longer end one to two times with fingers.

  4. Step 4

Clean off the finish of the twist that secures the stone. Clip any excess wire from the short twisted end with standard pliers on the back side of the stone. Use the fingers to rub the edges and make sure the finish is smooth. If it's not smooth, crimp the rough wire down with the flat nose pliers.

  5. Step 5

Create a loop. Hold the wire directly above the twist with the round nose pliers. Wrap the wire loosely or tightly once around the round nose pliers which results in a large or small loop respectively from which the piece attaches to another loop or chain.

  6. Step 6

Slide the wire loop through the newly created loop. When threaded, secure the loop by twisting it one to two times around itself. Snip off any excess wire on the back side with the standard pliers. Check for a smooth finish. Crimp rough ends with flat nose pliers.

Tips & Warnings
  • Clasps, head pins or ear wires are necessary hardware for holding together wire wrap bracelets, necklaces or earrings.
