Many mountain bikers prefer a different seat height for different riding conditions. For instance, most mountain bikers raise the height of the seat for uphill climbs, and lower the seat for the descent. By using a quick release binder on the seat post of your mountain bike, you can make swift adjustments to the height of your seat while out on the trail.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Choose a quick release binder that will fit the seat post of your particular mountain bike. While most binders are adjustable to fit a wide variety of seat post diameters, you may want to choose to install a binder that has been made with your brand of mountain bike in mind.

  2. Step 2

Remove the seat post of your mountain bike to install the quick release binder. This can usually be accomplished through the loosening of an Allen wrench bolt at the base of the seat post, or through some other type of locking mechanism.

  3. Step 3

Install the quick release binder above the collar of frame at the bottom of the seat post. Loosen the screw on the binder so that it will easily accommodate the diameter of the seat post.

  4. Step 4

Apply a few drops of bike lubricant to the seat post itself before you slide it back into the frame of your mountain bike. This will help you to avoid excessive wear-and-tear on the seat post if you're the type who will be adjusting saddle height frequently. Slowly slide the seat post in and out of the frame to ensure that the lubricant evenly coats the post and the collar inside the bike frame.

  5. Step 5

Slide the seat post through the quick release binder until the seat is at the correct height. Turn the quick release lever until the binder grips the seat post firmly, using your hand to apply pressure downward. Once you are satisfied that the binder is working properly, sit on the saddle and gradually shift the entire weight of your body on the seat post.

  6. Step 6

Experiment with different saddle adjustments until you become comfortable with the quick release binder. After some practice, you will be able to make quick adjustments on the fly, even while riding on an open trail.
