Things You'll Need:
- Mountain bike
- Helmet
- Elbow pads and knee pads
- Safety goggles
- Tune-up
-
Step 1
Choose to attend a mountain bike camp that is suited for your age, not just your skill level. Many mountain bike camps are designed around a specific demographic, such as kids under the age of 12, teenagers or even first-time mountain bikers.
-
Step 2
Ensure that your mountain bike is in top condition before you attend a camp. While repair services are usually available at these camps, you'll have a much better time if you simply take your bike down to the local shop and get a tune-up beforehand. The shop may also be able to provide you with a small tool kit that will help you keep up on repairs and maintenance while you attend the camp.
-
Step 3
Bring all appropriate safety equipment with you when you attend a mountain bike camp, including a helmet, eye protection, elbow and knee pads and possibly gloves. Due to insurance regulations, most camps will require some, if not all, of this equipment before you will be admitted to the camp.
-
Step 4
Attend as many of the clinics, lectures and classes about mountain biking as you can while you are at the camp. Many of these camps feature expert mountain bike riders who can help you improve your own knowledge base and performance. Even if you are an experienced rider, there's always more to learn.
-
Step 5
Obey all rules and regulations, at all times, when you attend a mountain bike camp. Most of these standards are implemented for your own safety, as well as the safety of everyone else. By being a hot dog and ignoring the safety rules, you risk ruining everyone else's experience at the camp, not just your own.
