Step 1
Select soccer coaching DVDs that focus on your specific position to tighten up more than just basic techniques. "Keeping Secrets," a soccer DVD by former U.S. Olympic Team goalkeeper Jeff Duback, for example, teaches warm-up exercises and specialized goalkeeping strategies geared exclusively toward goalies. It's available through the Soccer Learning Systems website (see Resources below).
-
Step 2
Choose from a variety of DVDs geared toward youth players if you're involved in coaching a kids' team. The "9-Step Practice Routine" DVD, available from FundamentalSoccer.com, promises to teach you how to conduct motivating, effective youth soccer practices every time you coach. You might also try "Coaching Competitive Soccer for 8 to 12 Year Olds," directed by Christopher Lenart and available through Amazon (see Resources below).
-
Step 3
Tone up your full range of skills with DVDs designed to train you in both attack and defense techniques. The "Tactics and Drills" DVD series includes one disc focusing on scoring and attacking, one disc focusing on zonal defending and a third disc focusing on possession and passing. You can buy this series and other soccer DVDs on the Soccer Videos Galore website (see Resources below).
-
Step 4
Check out a soccer resource website like SoccerHelp.com, where you'll find listings of soccer DVDs selected by actual coaches (see Resources below). The site also lets you view video clips from selected DVDs before you purchase them.
-
Step 5
Practice after watching some of the lessons, and decide whether it feels comfortable to execute the techniques on the field after watching the DVD. Do this within the refund time frame, so you can return the DVD if it's not helping your game.
