As the largest celebration of Cinco de Mayo in the entire world, the Festival de Fiesta Broadway in Los Angeles is the headquarters for Cinco de Mayo partying. More than a half million Angelenos and other fun seekers descend on 36 square blocks of downtown Los Angeles each spring to celebrate the cultural heritage of Mexico. To attend the Fiesta easily and safely, however, it's best to know something of its layout, schedule and organization.

Things You'll Need:

  • Los Angeles MTA schedule
  • Parking map
  1. Step 1

Plan your trip to the Festival de Fiesta Broadway wisely. To get to and around Los Angeles itself, a car is a necessity. However, Fiesta Broadway is most easily accessed by public transportation. Parking at the Festival will be difficult at best. Numerous Metro lines and bus lines head right into the epicenter of the celebration. Get the schedules at Metro (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Check out the "Getting There" page of the Fiesta Broadway website before you attend (see Resources below). This page will connect you to train and bus routes as well as hotel and traveler information.

  3. Step 3

Focus your time wisely when you attend. The Fiesta begins at 11 a.m. each year and ends at 6 p.m. Check the exhibition booths early and then watch the bands later as the performing names get bigger as the day continues.

  4. Step 4

Visit the Los Angeles Convention & Visitors Bureau website to book accommodations in the Los Angeles area (see Resources below). Concentrate on hotels off Main Street and Broadway to be within walking distance of the Festival de Fiesta Broadway.

  5. Step 5

Look at the schedule of performers, if this is of interest to you and your party. The Fiesta boasts several stages with some of the top names in Tejano, Tex-Mex, Ranchera, mariachi, rap and other Latin music. Featured performers from years past include Pepe Aguilar, Mariachi Sol de Mexico and Ozomatli.

Tips & Warnings
  • The Festival de Fiesta Broadway rarely falls on the fifth of May itself. Instead, it's celebrated on the last Sunday in April. Always double-check before heading out to the celebration at the Fiesta Broadway website (see Resources below).
