How to Book Accommodations for Wimbledon

If you want to attend the Wimbledon tennis championships, you're going to need to decide whether you want to stay in a hotel near the event venue or if you'd rather stay further away and travel to the tennis grounds to watch matches. Both approaches have advantages and disadvantages you should consider when you book your accommodations for Wimbledon.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Major credit card (MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover)

Step1
Plan well in advance. Regardless of where you decide to stay, you should book your accommodations early. The Wimbledon tennis tournament attracts thousands and thousands of visitors from all around the world, many of whom wind up competing for space at the area's hotels and guest houses.
Step2
Consider the very real possibility that overcrowding of the hotels near Wimbledon and the tennis club will inflate prices not only at hotels, but also at area businesses such as restaurants and nightclubs. Anytime a particular district sees a massive influx of tourists, prices tend to go up. You might want to consider accommodations in other London neighborhoods, or outside London altogether.
Step3
Get a better bargain by staying outside the immediate Wimbledon district. Of course, this requires that you will have to plan for (and spend money on) travel to and from the tennis events you plan to attend. However, London has an excellent subway system accessible from virtually anywhere in the city, and the British inter-city rail system is very reliable in the event you need to come in to London from a nearby town or city.

Tips & Warnings

  • WimbledonVisitor.com has a comprehensive list of hotels near the All English Tennis Club (see Resources below).
  • Accommodations in the greater London area are expensive at the best of times. If you book at the last minute, you should expect to pay a significant premium on top of regular rates.
