How to Rent Table Linens for a Wedding

Even if you're planning the most casual and simple wedding, table linens are one element you'll not want to overlook in your huge list of wedding to-dos. They can range from plain, simple white linens to beautiful colors in exotic fabrics, so be sure you know what you want before shopping, and be open minded to money saving options as well.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a color that not only matches your color theme for the wedding, but that will also serve as a lovely background for your dress. Remember that the bride and groom are the focal points of the day, not the objects you choose for decorating. A white dress, no matter how beautiful, will simply blend in and get lost among a sea of white table cloths, so choose a color to help you shine on your special day.

  2. Step 2

Rent your table linens from your caterer only if it is convenient and economical. If you shop around you may find that you can get a better price and more options by renting the linens directly.

  3. Step 3

Check each piece of the table linens for stains, tears or any other flaws. Note all that you find before signing for the delivery since you should be able to receive a discount for the poorly maintained articles.

  4. Step 4

Use contrasting colors for napkins and tablecloths. This adds pizazz to the table and makes sure the napkins are easy to find, even when dropped.

  5. Step 5

Measure your tables before committing to a size in your rental order. Each tablecloth should reach the floor, completely covering the legs of the table, and those of your guests.

  6. Step 6

Rent only from a business that assures you that they thoroughly clean and deodorize their table linens. While tablecloths may not be as much of a concern, remember that napkins will be used right under your guests' noses, so they should be clean and fresh so as not to turn your guests off of their dinner.

  7. Step 7

Keep the dishes that will be served in mind as you choose your table linens. Rent darker colors for beef and gravy dishes or when guests will be served wine at the table. Light colors can be used for dessert-only receptions, or with fish and white sauce dinners.

Tips & Warnings
  • Drape tulle over the main tables and sprinkle the guest tables with flower petals, glitter or confetti. This is a cheap and easy way to spruce up plain table linens, while still making them look like a million bucks.
