Instructions

    • 1

Prepare your beef by trimming away its excess fat and cutting it into cubes of 1 to 1 1/2 inches. Also cut your onions into cubes or wedges of the same size.

    • 2

Place the beef and onion cubes into a bowl or plastic zipper bag. Pour in enough French dressing to cover the ingredients. Seal and chill in the fridge overnight for best absorption.

    • 3

Prepare the remaining vegetables, including green peppers and tomatoes. Wash the peppers and cut them into 1-inch squares. Wash the baby tomatoes and pat them dry with a paper towel.

    • 4

Prepare the skewers. If using wooden or bamboo skewers, soak them in a container of water for 15 minutes to prevent breakage and burning during barbecuing. Coat them with non-stick cooking spray to make removal quick and easy.

    • 5

Construct the shish kebabs by sliding the beef cubes, onion wedges, pepper squares and baby tomatoes onto the skewers in an alternating pattern. Leave enough room on the end of the skewer to allow for flipping.

    • 6

Prepare your grill for barbecuing by preheating it to high. Place foil along the edge of the grill to hold the ends of the skewers. This prevents the ends from burning and makes flipping easier.

    • 7

Barbecue the shish kebabs over high heat for about 8 to 10 minutes. Turn the skewers approximately halfway through the barbecuing process. Check the skewers continually, as the small cubes of beef burn easily. The meat should be browned and the vegetables soft when finished.

    • 8

Transfer the shish kebabs from the barbecue grill to a platter or plate. Let them cool for about 5 minutes to seal in the beef's juices. They can be served either on or off the skewers.

Tips & Warnings

  • As the beef and vegetables cook, they will be held less firmly on the skewers. Many BBQ enthusiasts recommend using two skewers in each kebab to stop the meat and vegetables from spinning when they are turned.

  • Serve your finished kebabs on top of cooked rice for a delicious meal.

  • Wash your hands and clean surfaces that came in contact with the raw meat to prevent food poisoning.

  • Don't reuse any French dressing that came in contact with the raw meat.
