The Belmont Stakes, a horse race that is held every June in New York, is the oldest and longest race of the vaunted Triple Crown competition. Researching the schedule of this prestigious event is quite simple, since most racing periodicals and blogs follow the race religiously.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Online horse racing blogs
  • Horse racing bet tracking software

Step1
Follow the Belmont Stakes schedule by finding out the exact date for the running of the race. Held in Elmont, New York, the Belmont Stakes has been held every June since 1866. Generally, the Belmont Stakes is held 5 weeks after the Kentucky Derby and 3 weeks after the Preakness Stakes.
Step2
Read online horse racing blogs in order to follow the latest news about the schedule for the Belmont Stakes. Online blogs are becoming an extremely popular way to follow the sport of horse racing, with many betting experts hosting and moderating the sites themselves. You can use the discussion forums on most online blogs to share information, such as racing and handicapping tips.
Step3
Attend the race in person to follow the events at the Belmont Stakes. Unlike the Preakness and the Kentucky Derby, the venue is huge, and seats are usually available to the general public.
Step4
Visit the official website of the Belmont Stakes to follow the schedule of the race and to find out the latest news concerning the event (see Resources below). The website also contains archives of past races, historic photographs and track statistics. You can also use the site to keep abreast of all handicapping, betting and odds information up to the day of the race.
Step5
Use horse racing publications, such as the Daily Racing Form, to follow the schedule of the Belmont Stakes. The Daily Racing Form is the oldest and most respected authority on horse racing and has been covering the Belmont Stakes since 1894. The Daily Racing Form is available at most bookstores, news stands, race tracks and is even now available in an online form (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings

  • Since the Belmont Stakes is the final race of the three Triple Crown events, the atmosphere prior to the race will depend upon whether a horse is in the running to claim the Crown itself, having already won the Preakness and the Kentucky Derby.
