The Nintendo DS is one of the best-selling video game systems of all time, and it has an incredible array of great games to keep players occupied. However, not all of the games are solely designed for kids. Older gamers who love sports like golf will be happy to know that True Swing Golf is available, and it is easy to play and fun to master. Just be sure that you have your stylus handy to make those tough shots.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Nintendo DS
  1. Step 1

Choose your course and game type. Whether you pick an exhibition game or a championship course, the game's mechanic is the same. You'll also be tasked to choose or create an avatar before you hit the links.

  2. Step 2

Line up your first drive by using the D-pad to adjust your stance left and right. Adjusting your stance will affect the trajectory of the ball, which is useful for avoiding certain hazards on the course (sand traps and water hazards in particular).

  3. Step 3

Account for the wind and weather when you shoot. When you play True Swing Golf, such real world factors play a major role. If there's wind blowing across the fairway, for example, it's important to turn into or away from it depending on where the hole is.

  4. Step 4

Place the stylus on the touch screen at the desired shot strength. For drives, bigger shots and for getting out of sand traps, you'll want to choose more power. For putts you'll want to use minimal power.

  5. Step 5

Thrust the stylus up towards the ball. The closer you get it to dead center, the more accurate your shot will be. If you pull up on the stylus too far left or right you will hook or slice the ball.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep the stylus off the screen until you're sure you're ready to swing. If you're not careful you'll end up starting the swing procedure.
  • Choose to play in Championship mode. In Championship mode you'll have the chance to get new clubs and clothing, which can affect your skill as you progress.
  • Don't press too hard when using the stylus to play True Swing Golf. While the Nintendo DS touch screen is very durable, repeated, aggressive use can scratch the screen, making it difficult to see what is on it.
  • There are no optional rule sets or mini-games in True Swing Golf, so in order to master the game you're simply going to have to jump right in.
