Step 1
Read national publications dedicated to the gay community. Some of the most popular are "The Advocate" and "Out." Get these and others at most newsstands and bookstores.
-
Step 2
Watch television. Both national sources such as CNN and MSNBC, as well local news broadcasts often report on topics of interest to gays and cover current events of interest to gays in the community.
-
Step 3
Seek out news information from activist groups both national and local. These are often the best sources for reports of political action in the gay community and are updated frequently.
-
Step 4
Search the Internet for gay "blogs." These online journals are often written by "those in the know" and can be extremely informative. They also often link to other avenues for getting gay community news.
-
Step 5
Check news portals on the Internet. These include both mainstream news sources such as "Topix," as well as those specifically dedicated to the gay community like NationalGayNews.com (see Resources below).
-
Step 6
Turn on your radio. Gay news can be found on the airwaves, including some radio stations completely dedicated to the gay community such as Sirius OutQ Radio.
-
Step 7
Visit or call gay community centers, as these are among the best places to get local gay community news.
-
Step 8
Search out small local publications that have sections pertaining to the gay community and are often free of charge. These can generally be found in news bins at restaurants, local businesses that are open to the public, libraries and nightspots.
-
Step 9
Look at bulletin boards posted in local restaurants and gay hot spots for news on the local gay community, including planned events of interest to the gay population.
