How to Date a Bisexual

Any person who is attracted and open to the experience can date a bisexual person, and it does not necessarily say anything new about your own sexual orientation. Whether you are looking for a long-term monogamous relationship or a no-strings-attached fling, what is important is that you approach a bisexual date with honesty, openness and respect for each of your limits and expectations.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Respect your date's boundaries. Everyone needs space and alone time to process emotions, attractions and the everyday experiences of being in a relationship. If you are constantly asking questions about your bisexual date's preferences and attractions, your curiosity may kill the romance and the relationship that you have.
Step2
Focus on the interests and activities that you like to share with your bisexual date. There should be plenty of common ground between you so that you do not spend all your time discussing sex and sexuality.
Step3
Avoid thinking that you can change another person's stripes, or that you have changed him. The fact that a bisexual person is dating you does not mean that you have "turned" that person. Be comfortable enough with yourself to accept your bisexual date and enjoy your relationship.
Step4
Distinguish between attraction and sexual activity. Most people continue to find other people sexually attractive throughout their lives without necessarily acting upon the attraction. A bisexual person is someone for whom that kind of attraction is not gender-exclusive, but there is no more need for jealousy or insecurity in an honest relationship with a bisexual person than in any other relationship.
Step5
Communicate your love, pride and respect to the other person when you are in a serious relationship with someone who is bisexual. It takes courage and self-awareness to live as a bisexual, and these qualities can more than make up for the occasional complexity that may be involved in dating someone who is bisexual.

Tips & Warnings

  • Understand that a bisexual person may decide at some point in life to make relationship choices based on the desire to fulfill certain goals that you may not share. For instance, if you are a gay or lesbian person dating a bisexual man or woman, the other person may at some point choose to get married and have a family. If such issues are potentially important to you, talk them through before you commit yourself to a long-term relationship.

on 9/19/2008 I have been dating a woman for 5 years who has been married two times to different men. She won't give me the same consideration as her female partner. Her excuse for being in the marriages were for business reasons only. The other day we were making out and she said she wanted to suck my dick. A Freudian slip? I am feeling insecure and am wondering if I should leave her. Comments woud be greatly appreciated.
