If you feel as if you were born with the wrong sexual parts, you may be a transexual. Transexual people are born as one gender, but feel as if they are the opposite on the inside. To that end, many transexuals choose to live their lives as the gender they feel they were meant to be. This can be as simple as a man dressing as a woman in his day to day life, or as complicated as a woman undergoing a sex change operation to physically become a man. If you feel that you are the wrong gender, you can learn to live as a transexual.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Decide how far you want to go. Do you want only the outward appearance of the opposite sex, do you want a total sex change or is something in between more appropriate for you? Only you know what you're comfortable doing.
Step2
Buy a new wardrobe to reflect your new gender. While you may want to keep a few articles of clothing from your old life for certain events, the majority of your clothing should reflect the gender you want to be.
Step3
Get the toiletries associated with your preferred gender. For men wanting to be women, this may mean buying make-up, perfume and fake eyelashes. For women wanting to be men, this could include aftershave, hair gel and cologne.
Step4
Be bold about it. Start living as your preferred gender right away. If people at work or school need an explanation, give it to them, and then tell them you'd appreciate their respect and support. Don't feel the need to keep defending yourself over and over again.
Step5
Consult with a surgeon if you're considering sex re-assignment. You'll need to start a regimen of hormone therapy in advance of the surgery, and if you're a male, you'll need to have breast augmentation performed. You'll also find out how much the surgery will cost, so you can start saving up for it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't expect everyone you know to be accepting of your new lifestyle. Many people are conservative and feel threatened by or hostile toward people who live a transexual life. Some of your friends, and even family members, may turn away from you. However, anyone who doesn't accept you for who you are isn't worth your time. Forget these people and concentrate on the ones who really love and support you, for they are the real treasures in your life.
  • If you're getting harassed at work for being a transexual, be sure to talk to human resources about it. In most states, there are laws that prevent this sort of on-the-job harassment from taking place. Even if your state doesn't have such laws, your company's anti-discrimination policy might protect you.
