Being a transexual can sometimes mean a lonely existence, especially if your community is conservative. You may not know any other transexuals and feel alone and isolated. Having friends who are like you can help your self-esteem and personal happiness tremendously. Fortunately, you can learn how to find other transexuals, no matter where you live.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to local gay and lesbian bars. Many transexuals patronize these establishments on a regular basis, especially if the town in question doesn't have a bar catering specifically to transexuals.

  2. Step 2

Attend local gay pride events. While the majority of transexuals identify themselves as heterosexuals, the gay community has embraced them as their own. You'll find transexuals of all kinds proudly expressing their personalities at these events.

  3. Step 3

Go to your local gay outreach center. You'll be able to find out what's going on in the gay community in your area, learn where the popular hangout spots are and meet others like you.

  4. Step 4

Sit in on a meeting of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered Alliance at your local college or university. Most campuses host a branch of this national organization. It can be an excellent way to find other transexuals.

  5. Step 5

Advertise on Craigslist (see Resources below). This free Internet classified ads board is frequently used by transexuals to meet other transexuals. You can place your own personal ad, or read and respond to the ads of others.

Tips & Warnings
  • Before attending a meeting of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered Alliance at your local college, make sure it's okay to just show up. A call to the president or faculty advisor of the club should give you the information you need. If you know a member of the club personally, see if he will take you as his guest to a meeting.
  • Find out if your new transexual friend is comfortable being open about his identity in public before you meet in person for the first time. You wouldn't want to show up for a meeting dressed up as a woman if your friend will be dressed in a business suit and tie.
  • If you meet someone on Craigslist and decide to get together in person, be safe and make sure your first meeting is at a public place, such as a bar or restaurant. Don't go to that person's home or invite him to your home until you're thoroughly comfortable with each other, even if this takes several in-person meetings. You can never be too careful when it comes to your personal safety in today's society, even within the transexual community.
