How to Book a Mother's Day Salt Glow

A salt glow massage will nourish your mother as she once nourished you. Body fluids contain a high proportion of salt as sodium and chloride. Sodium allows cells to absorb nutrients and expel waste. Chloride maintains pH balance. A salt glow massage can restore vitality, improve the appearance of skin and relieve problems like arthritis, psoriasis, excess cellulite and insomnia.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Weigh the time and costs involved. A salt glow facial lasts about 30 minutes. A full-body salt glow massage lasts about 1 hour, not counting a body wrap and massage, and is considerably more costly.

  2. Step 2

Book the full treatment if you can afford it. This includes an initial body wrap to soften dead skin, a full-body salt glow scrub to exfoliate and a final massage. If this is too expensive, consider booking just a salt glow facial.

  3. Step 3

Use caution when booking salt glow treatments for people with very thin or sensitive skin. Salt is abrasive, and some technicians apply it vigorously. You may want to arrange for a seaweed wrap or a mud bath instead.

  4. Step 4

Use the SpaFinder website to find a spa that offers salt glow massages (see Resources below).

  5. Step 5

Call the spas and salons closest to your mom and ask whether they offer salt glow massages. Not all spas offer this treatment, so be specific when calling for a Mother's Day appointment.

  6. Step 6

Book the salt glow appointment 1 month ahead of time. Pay in advance to avoid unnecessary hassles later. Most spas accept credit cards by phone, and some even take checks by phone.

  7. Step 7

Ask the salon or spa to mail a written confirmation to you. Some spas provide this in the form of a gift certificate.

  8. Step 8

Outline the procedure in advance to make sure your mother is comfortable with it. A typical salt glow requires some degree of nudity, and some women find that disturbing or embarrassing. Consider booking a salt glow facial instead.

Tips & Warnings
  • To save money, book a shorter appointment. The longer the treatment, the more you can expect to pay. Keep in mind, however, that longer treatments are typically more effective.
  • People on low-salt diets, like those with high blood pressure, should avoid salt glow massages.
  • Avoid booking a full-body salt glow treatment for a woman who cannot recline for long periods of time without experiencing pain.
