This is a dish that I was first introduced to by my relatives in Pennsylvania. Being a fan of tuna salad and macaroni salad I absolutely loved this dish and up until then never realized you could combine the two to produce a delicious side dish.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 3 cups of elbow macaroni
  • 1-2 cans of tunafish, packed in water
  • mayo
  • pepper

Step1
Fill a large pot with water and place it on the stove at medium heat until it begins to slightly boil. Add 3 cups of uncooked elbow macaroni to the pot. Boil until macaroni is tender.
Step2
Drain the macaroni in a strainer. Let the macaroni sit for a few minutes to cook off, or spray with some cold water. Pour into a large bowl.
Step3
Take a can of tuna and drain it of all water. Add the tuna to the bowl of macaroni. Add mayo and mix, keep adding may until everything is well coated and creamy. You may need to add a second can of tuna, it depends on how much of a tuna flavor you want your macaroni salad to have. Add pepper as much as you desire, taste test so that you know when you have added enough pepper. Chill in the fridge until macaroni is cold. Serve.

Tips & Warnings

  • After the pasta has chilled, you may find that you will need to add more mayo. Pasta has the tendency to absorb mayonnaise when it chills. Adding more mayo if needed will not affect the pasta salad.
  • If you want, you can add some shredded sharp cheddar to add an extra zing to the flavor.
  • If you use a can of tuna that is packed in oil, it will have a more fishy flavor. It is up to you how much flavor you want the salad to have.
