Eastern Connecticut has big cities like New London, Norwich and Willimantic. While Willimantic may have stereotypes for being crime ridden, it is actually a nice place with a lot to do. It's a great destination for day trips.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Frogs: The city’s theme and official animal is the frog, which can be seen throughout many parts of the city. One of the most noticeable parts is the Willimantic frog bridge that is host to four giant frog statues dedicated to the history of the town. The frogs have gold eyes and are even donned with scarves during the winter. Mini replicas of these frogs can be found scattered throughout the city. The frog is the mascot for any event that is being held.

  2. Step 2

Willi-Bowl: Willimantic is home to one of the best bowling alleys around, known as Willi-Bowl. Bowlers of all ages are welcome to the automatic scoring lanes and whether you are just bowling a game or joining a league it is an all around fun time. There are also many arcades for the kids to enjoy, including a puppet machine.

  3. Step 3

Food: Willimantic is home to a lot of great food options. There is fast food like Burger King, McDonalds and KFC--as well as smaller restaurants like Papa’s Pizza and the Fish Market. They also have a Ruby Tuesdays and an Applebees. No matter what you are in the mood for, whether it is pizza, pasta, Chinese, or seafood, just open up a phone book and you can find it in Willimantic.

  4. Step 4

Bingo: The VFW in Willimantic hosts a Bingo night every Thursday beginning at 6:45 PM. Packages are as cheap as $6 dollars to enter and there are many games to play, most with a fifty dollar pay out. They also have bonus games like Bonanza, Quickies, and various specials throughout the night. Smoking is allowed; so if that makes you uncomfortable then sit in the back or near an exit.

  5. Step 5

ESCU: Eastern Connecticut State University is nice cozy campus that sits high in Willimantic. It is a great place to attend college or just use their huge library for your personal use. The library is open until midnight on every night except for the weekends. It is open even later during finals.
