Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Equipment: You only really need one camera for this. Pack extra batteries if you wish. Try to bring a tripod because music videos consist of short shaky clips. People may get dizzy watching a bunch of those clips all attached together. The tripod will help your production look more professional.
Step2
When you are taping, try to move locations as much as possible. Do high angles, low angles, and a lot of different kind of stuff for a variety of shots. During post production, you will see how the different kinds of shots will enhance the end product.
Step3
If it is a baseball game, try to get straight behind home plate for a couple of shots without distracting the players. Try to shoot from or close to the dug out if you can. Take a walk to the fence behind the outfield for a good view and both sides of the bleachers.
Step4
Other sports are much the same. If there is a spot where you want to film from that you may think is distracting, just ask an official or somebody in charge if it would be OK. Go to multiple games if you can and get a wide variety of shots to mix in. Basically, the more you tape, the more you will have to choose from.
Step5
When all your footage is compiled, it is time to put it together on your computer. There is no specific point that you need to choose the music; but before hand is usually better because then you can pick out clips that will go along good with the song.
Step6
Sports videos should have an uplifting song like a techno beat or a rock jam. Freeplaymusic.com has a lot of great vocal free tracks. Plus, they have a sports section with music that would go well with music videos. You can choose almost anything fast--or even something about that specific sport.
Step7
When you are editing the clips make them no longer than 5 seconds. This will help keep the pace brisk and keep your audience’s attention.
Step8
If there is a great clip like a homerun or a shot at the buzzer, consider doing a repeat shop in slow motion. This will help add a dramatic effect and make for a better video.
Step9
The last shot of the video can be a little longer, of the team celebrating or the very end of the game. This will tie the whole video together and make for a great ending.
