Things You'll Need:
- Handgun,ammo,ear & eye protection and targets
-
Step 1
Shooting a handgunYou should select a small or moderate caliber pistol so as not to be intimidated by the recoil. A 22 revolver is a good starting point it is cheap to shoot and easy on the hand. If you chose a center fire a 38 special is a good choice. A revolver is preferred because it is easier to learn and determine if it is loaded or not.
-
Step 2
Another handgunIf you can get someone with experience to show you how to shoot but if not find a place that is safe and set up your target. You should grip the gun with two hands and have the sights at eye level. Practice squeezing the trigger rather then jerking it. Concentrate on accuracy rather then speed. That will come later. Set your feet shoulder width and be comfortable and balanced.
-
Step 3
Practice-PracticeYou should practice a lot and seek advice from some if you are having a problem. Be sure to practice safety procedures at all times. Never assume that it is empty and NEVER point it at anyone or anything you don't wish to destroy. Use common sense. Make sure you have a good backstop.

Step 4
Handgun shooting is an enjoyable and safe sport if practiced correctly. You should have a good target such as a B-27 so you can see your hits and misses and learn from them.
