Leather is actually animal hide, so when you find yourself needing to clean leather, you also need to condition and polish it to return the material to its natural suppleness and sheen. There are the tried-and-true leather cleaning methods and products, and then there are some home remedies that sound crazy, but that just might help a shoe that's not coming clean the traditional way. Either way you choose to go, it's a fairly easy process if you break it into a few steps. Just make sure to have all the ingredients, add your dirty shoes and watch their former shine return to them.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Warm water
  • Saddle soap
  • Clorox bleach pen
  • Goo Gone
  • Mink oil or leather conditioner
  • White cream shoe polish
  • Rags
  • Petroleum jelly
  • Milk
  • biscuit dough
  • olive oil

How to Clean Soiled White Leather Shoes

Step1
Rinse your shoes in warm water.
Step2
Clean them with a soft brush in a mixture of warm water and saddle soap. Rinse.
Step3
Stuff shoes with paper or rags to maintain shape and soak in water as they drip dry.
Step4
Rub dry leather with mink oil or leather conditioner.
Step5
Polish with white cream or paste shoe polish.

Tips & Warnings

  • If there are still stains, try using a Clorox bleach pen on them.
  • Try using Goo Gone, which will take out any stain.
  • Some people swear by biscuit dough. If you make biscuits and have extra dough, rub some on the leather, and wipe with cotton cloth. Add a dot of petroleum jelly for shine.
  • Try washing in milk, shining up with olive oil.
  • Do not fry and eat shoes once they're covered in biscuit dough and olive oil, no matter how good they smell.
