How to Camp in Northwest Arkansas

1. Pick a time of year to go camping. The Ozark Mountains are beautiful in all seasons. Spring, summer and fall are all warm enough to camp. Appreciate spring flowers, the green trees of summer or the beautiful autumn foliage. Most camp grounds are closed from November through March, but the rest of the year campsites are available.
2. Decide how you would like to camp. Tent camping is an affordable way to get close to nature. Consider your preferences and budget to make this decision. Recreational Vehicles are available for rental for those who wish to have more of the comforts of home are available. Resorts with cabins are available, although some would argue that this is not really camping. For those who want to enjoy the outdoors without roughing it, this is an option.
3. Consider where you would most enjoy camping. If you enjoy spending time near the water; Beaver Lake, Table Rock Lake and Lake Leatherwood provide lakeside camping. For those who prefer a river view; camping is available on the White River, Kings River and Buffalo National River. Each of these locations offers camping away from the water, as well.
4. Make reservations ahead of time. The camp sites at national parks may be reserved online, as can the camp sites at state parks. Private campgrounds exist, so follow up with the individual camp ground to learn reservation policies.
5. When the time comes, pack and head out. Plan or don’t plan. The choice is yours. The beauty of camping is that you do not have to follow a schedule, unless you really want one.
